Working Holiday Visa
Work and travel in Australia for up to 12 months, with the option to extend.
Overview
For young travellers from eligible countries who want to fund an extended trip through short-term work. A second and even third year is possible if you complete a set number of days of specified work in a regional area during your first visa.
Who it's for
- Eligible passport holders aged 18–30, or up to 35 for a handful of countries under bilateral agreements
- Anyone planning an extended working trip to Australia rather than a fixed holiday
Key requirements
- A passport from an eligible Subclass 417 country
- Within the applicable age range at the time of application
- Sufficient funds for your initial stay and onward travel
- Not have previously held more Working Holiday visas than your current application allows
- Not accompanied by dependent children
You can generally only work for the same employer for up to 6 months, and your second and third year depend on completing specified regional work — 88 days for a second visa, 179 days for a third. If your passport isn't on the Subclass 417 list, the Subclass 462 Work and Holiday visa may cover you instead.
